X is expanding its push into financial services by connecting users with crypto exchanges and stock brokerages directly from Cashtags on the platform. The new Cashtag Partner Program allows eligible U.S. users to move from financial conversations, price charts and market information on X to participating trading platforms through a new “Trade” option.
The launch brings five major financial platforms into X’s trading ecosystem: Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, Moomoo and Interactive Brokers. The integration covers supported cryptocurrencies, stocks and exchange traded funds, giving users a shorter path between discovering an asset on their timeline and accessing a platform where they can complete a transaction.
X Connects Cashtags to Crypto and Stock Trading
The new system builds on X’s existing Cashtag functionality. A Cashtag, such as $BTC or $AAPL, can open an interactive asset page containing market information, price charts and related conversations. With the new update, eligible users can also see a “Trade” button and select a participating exchange or brokerage.
After selecting a partner, X sends the user to that company’s website or mobile application. Existing customers can sign in and continue their trading journey, while eligible new customers can begin the account opening process. The actual order execution, account management and custody remain with the participating financial company rather than X.
The initial partner group combines crypto-native exchanges with traditional brokerage platforms. Coinbase, Kraken and Gemini provide crypto trading access, while Interactive Brokers and Moomoo extend the program into stocks and ETFs. Asset availability depends on each platform, account eligibility and applicable jurisdiction.
Kraken confirmed that its integration allows U.S. users to tap a supported crypto Cashtag, review the asset and then select Kraken to continue to its trading platform. The exchange said its integration supports Cashtags covering a broad range of assets.
Interactive Brokers also confirmed its integration on September 15, saying U.S. investors can search stock or crypto tickers on X, view live market information and select the embedded “Trade” option to research or place an order through IBKR.
From Financial Conversation to Market Access
The development changes the role Cashtags can play on X. Previously, users primarily used the feature to discover prices and follow conversations around stocks and cryptocurrencies. The new integration adds a pathway from that information to an external trading platform.
X Product Engineering lead Mridul Singhai described the objective as reducing the gap between seeing a ticker on the timeline and reaching the corresponding market. The company is effectively connecting three activities that already happen on the platform: financial discovery, market discussion and access to trading services.
The move also fits into X’s broader expansion beyond social networking. The platform has increasingly added financial and payment-related features as it pursues its broader vision for an “Everything App.” Connecting Cashtags with established crypto exchanges and brokerages gives X another financial services layer without requiring the company to operate a brokerage or crypto exchange itself.
For crypto users, the Coinbase, Gemini and Kraken connections create a direct route from posts discussing assets to established crypto trading platforms. For stock investors, Moomoo and Interactive Brokers provide access to brokerage environments after users discover market information through X.
What X’s Trading Integration Means for Users
The partnership could make X a more important starting point for investors researching assets, particularly when market moving conversations develop quickly on the platform. Instead of leaving X to search separately for an exchange or brokerage, users can begin with a supported Cashtag and follow the available trading pathway.
However, the feature does not mean every cryptocurrency, stock or ETF can be traded through every partner. Each company controls its own supported assets, account requirements, geographic availability and regulatory processes. The launch is currently focused on U.S. users, while X has not announced a timetable for broader international availability.
The closer connection between social media conversations and financial transactions also creates questions around the quality of information users encounter before trading. TechCrunch noted that the integration could increase concerns around market manipulation involving bots, spammers and other actors attempting to influence financial conversations on X.
For now, X remains the discovery and routing layer, while the participating exchanges and brokerages handle the financial transaction. The Cashtag Partner Program therefore represents a significant expansion of X’s financial functionality without turning the social network itself into the entity executing users’ trades.
As X continues developing financial products, the integration with Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, Moomoo and Interactive Brokers provides a new bridge between social media market conversations and established trading infrastructure. The result is a platform where users can discover an asset, examine its market information and move to a participating financial provider from the same Cashtag experience.
