2018 has been a very crypto year. And, just like crypto keeps trying to teach us, there are ebbs, flows, peaks, troughs, lows, and extreme highs. While the markets seem to be stalling, at Global Crypto, we’re just getting started. Blockchain projects and interesting opportunities to discover, explore, learn, and grow, have not stopped. We’re signing off for the year, and filing 2018 as the year of buidling and hodling. For 2019, we’ve set ourselves some big, hairy goals, but if 2018 is anything to go by, we’re certain we’ll achieve them. So, to put the cherry on 2018’s cake, here are our top 5 moments of this very crypto year:

In May, we hosted our very first Global Crypto Summit in Durban. We regard this event as our official launch date, where we opened our tight-knit community up to the world. It was this event that enabled us to meet many of you for the first time. If you missed this one, you can still catch up on the stream here, or hear more from our speakers and team here.

In July, some of our team travelled up to Johannesburg to host our very first #JHBMeetUp, and our Project Lead, James Preston, presented at the Global Blockchain Congress in Sandton. Our trip to Johannesburg gave us another opportunity to meet some of our favourite community members, and laid the foundation for further partnerships. And yes, Cape Town, you’re next on our list for 2019, we promise.

In August, we launched our website! We’ve shared our online space with some of our community’s best and brightest minds, and truly enjoyed showcasing some exciting projects. The Global Crypto website is always growing, with useful guides to navigating the crypto world, helpful resources, and solid advice from experts. If you’d like to be part of our writers’ pool, pop us a message – we’d love to hear from you!

Throughout the year, we regularly produced audio, video, and podcast content for our community. Whether we’re updating you on the markets, highlighting a new project, or showcasing some breaking news, you’ve been an exceptional audience. Graeme Tennant, our Financial Analyst, has been a regular contributor to this series, and we’re ever so grateful to him for sharing his wisdom, just as he did at a training session in December.

And last, but not least, our favourite moment from 2018:

It’s been a very crypto year. Market shocks, worrying over wallets, and blustering over BTC, but there’s been one constant moment that has buffered us, buoyed each of us, and made us smile: It’s you. Our Global Crypto community has grown in quantity, but also in quality. We noticed something rather intriguing as the markets quietened down: our community channels turned noisier. Instead of worries over the figures, our community stepped up and in with advice, insight, and a true sense of camaraderie. It’s been a strong reminder to the team that Global Crypto is about all of us. As we look ahead to 2019, we hope you’ve found your way through the madness of the year, and are ready to take on new challenges ahead.

Thanks for being with us in 2018. We’ll see you in 2019. In the meantime, happy hodlidays!
